Breaking: Bayern Munich Sack Carlo Ancelotti

Bayern Munich have sacked manager Carlo Ancelotti barely a month into the new season, ESPN writes.

The shocking decision comes in the wake of Bayern’s Champions League mauling at Paris Saint-Germain Wednesday night that saw the French giants take the initiative in the group.

It was a pointer to the considerable decline at Bayern since Juup Heynckes guided the side to a historic treble in 2013.

After completing a remarkable fifth straight league triumph last term, there have been
rumblings of discontent at the Allianz Arena this season with the Italian manager falling out with a number of top players, particularly Franck Ribery.

The Bavarians also find themselves in the unfamiliar position of third in the Bundesliga, trailing early pacesetters Borussia Dortmund by three points after dropped points at Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg.

But last night’s humbling at the Parc des princes proved to be the straw that broke the camel’s back for Ancelotti, whose Bayern have been accused of stagnating since pep Guardiola left in the summer of 2016.

Bayern CEO, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had hinted at the sack, saying after the defeat to Paris that: “This was not Bayern – there will be consequences.” While star winger Arjen Robben refused to answer a question about whether the manager had his backing post-match.

Ancelotti, 58, is one of the most successful coaches in European football, winning the champions league three times – at AC Milan and Real Madrid – while lifting championships in Italy, England and France.
