Ed Sheeran Stands In Defense Of Mariah Carey

Ed Sheeran has stuck up for Mariah Carey in a new interview with Cubby and Carolina after her New Year’s Eve performance in Times Square.

He said:

“I feel like that could happen to anyone. That’s happened to me before when the in-ears just didn’t work.” The singer said in defense of her botched performance. “She’s in the middle of Times Square with no monitors. It’s really difficult. You can’t sing in time for that. I know people are watching that and poking fun at her, but that’s a really, really horrible situation to be in. You’re just there, powerless.” He even revealed that this happened to him while he was
performing with his BFF Taylor Swift, so at least he didn’t have to deal with that crisis alone.

Ed Sheeran also stopped by Elvis Duran and The Morning Show and had a more lot to say:

ON HOW HE GOT HIS FACE SCAR:

“From a sword… It was James Blunt.”

ON HIS SCAR NOW PREVENTING HIM FROM BEING INCOGNITO:

“I quite like the scar! I think it adds! The only thing is I used to be, I started going under the radar when I first got big, then I got loads of tattoos and then everyone was like okay you’re definitely you because you have red hair and tattoos, so I started wearing hoodies and hats. Now I’ve got this face scar, there’s no not recognizing me because it’s like you’ve got ginger hair, tattoos, and a face scar, it’s definitely you!”

ON HOLDING OFF RELEASING NEW MUSIC UNTIL THIS YEAR:

“I’m glad I came out when I did because I was going to release in September and then the end of the year just starts getting really clotted with loads of artists releasing because of the Christmas markets. I kind of thought it might fall on deaf ears if I released mine last year, so I just kind of waited for everyone to release and then January is pretty empty, no one’s really releasing in January so coming out people are excited about it!”

ON STARTING 2017 FRESH:

“There’s just the thing about starting a new year fresh and new year, new me 2017! There’s a thing about starting it fresh and just letting it go. Plus 2016 wasn’t the best year, was it?”

ON 2016 BEING A BAD YEAR:

“So many amazing people passed away, though! I think it was kind of a case of gone too soon with a lot of them. If George Michael was like 96, people would be like okay, yeah, contributions and that bit. But it was a really sad thing to happen I think.”

ON WHY HE UNPLUGGED:

“I was at a house party on Saturday around my friend’s house and someone was saying, ‘Why did you unplug?’ and I was there having fun with my best mates and I just said to him, ‘Look around the room now,’ and 5 of my best mates were there at this party, we’re all catching up, and they’re all on their phones. I was like, that’s exactly why. I’d be at dinner with my Gran or something like that, checking Instagram. Why would you need to do that? Or hanging out with your parents or catching up with a friend and you’d always be drawn back to your phone and so my reason of unplugging was I was an unsociable guy who would always be glued to my screen, and I needed to change that. You can ask anyone in my team, I was just constantly screen in front of me!”

ON WHETHER HE STILL GOES OUT DRINKING AND PARTYING:

“Not really, I mean kind of. But now I’m back to work. Like you saw me at the tail end of my campaign, which the album had sold like 14 million copies and we were selling out stadiums everywhere so I kind of relaxed a bit and could drink on a radio show and be like, ‘Yeah! This is fun!’ But now I’m at the beginning of a campaign again, it’s serious. The album hasn’t come out, the singles have just come out. I don’t want to tempt fate by celebrating too early. In 2 years time, and I come back on the show, we’ll drink cognac and it will be good! But I’m in promo-zone, and I can’t get up at 6 in the morning hungover.”

ON WANTING TO BE THE BIGGEST ARTIST IN THE WORLD:

“I really want to be the biggest artist in the world and you can’t be lazy. You can’t be like, ‘I’m just going to do Elvis’ show,’ which would obviously be lovely, but you can’t!”
